The black locust is one of the butterfly bloomers. The common robinia is most common in Europe. This spring bloomer is also known under the names silver rain, false acacia or false acacia. The term 'acacia' refers to the foliage of the robinia, which is very similar to the acacia.

Depending on the species, this plant is a deciduous shrub or deciduous tree. It can reach heights of up to 25 m and a trunk diameter of up to 1.50 m. The white flowers, which can be yellow or pink depending on the species, appear from May to June and hang on the plant in dense clusters. The black locust forms so-called legumes, which contain the seeds.
