The berry, also called Chinese jujube, Chinese date or red date, is a tree that can reach a height of up to 4 meters. The plant has more than 4,000 years of history and was brought from Asia to Europe in the Mediterranean around the year 0. It is believed, therefore, that it is the jujube is a native plant. The Chinese date has small aromatic edible stone fruits, which are cultivated in many regions in plantations. Similar to the "real date" the fruit gets a wrinkled shell when you let them dry on the tree in the cultivation regions, in order to harvest them afterwards. Hence the name "Chinese Date". The plant can be kept in pots, but must be wintered frost-free. In mild regions of Germany it is also possible to plant the plant in the garden.
