Gentiana scabra belongs to the family Gentianaceae, the gentian family. He is known by the name of Japanese gentian or spicy gentian. G. scabra is originally from China, Japan and Korea. Many of our native gentian species are protected. G. scabra grows as a herbaceous plant and reaches a height of 30 to 60 cm. It is also often used as ground cover in natural gardens. The leaves are simple, dark green and much longer than wide. The leaves set directly on the shoot, without petiole. The flowers are deep blue with white center and bell-shaped. The flowers are hermaphrodite. The fruit is a capsule containing the numerous small, thin seeds. The roots of G. scabra are very sensitive, you have to pay special attention when transplanting. G. scabra is used in Chinese medicine. In most cases, the plant is used in combination with other herbs. G. scabra is thus used both externally and internally and acts against uncontrolled heat.
