First, you should consider which of these two types of palm tree you prefer, the fan or feather palm. This is a personal choice, because the appearance of the two is very different. In terms of overall resilience, however, it must be noted that the fan palm is more resistant, so it is better than novice palm. In particular, the hemp palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) and the windmill palm (Trachycarpus wagnerianus) is particularly hardy and therefore very popular in Europe.
For those of you who like the coconut effect, the spring palm is probably the better choice, as it is a close relative of this palm species. This species can also grow in your garden and may soon produce small edible "coconuts". These palm trees grow quite happily in the European climate since the cold winter of the 1980s. There are also 100-year-old specimens in the southwestern United Kingdom with considerably thick trunks.
Another coconut effect is achieved when the fan palms such as Trachycarpus fortunei or Trachycarpus wagnerianus, the bark is removed to represent an attractive image of the palm. The effect is breathtaking! Since the plants are a bit cold-sensitive, the strain needs a package in the cold periods.
