Agaves are succulent plants with decorative, thick-fleshed, sword-shaped leaves. These are initially closely intertwined and form an upright growth center. With age, the leaves gradually open and then also tilt over the edge of the pot. Many agave species form a sharp end spine on the leaves, and in almost all species the leaves form a pretty rosette.
